""Before the journal itself appeared, the editors produced a sample issue, a ""feeler,"" in which articles appeared concurrently in English and in French. This publication is not numbered as part of the Gazette and we have found only one instance in which it is bound with the journal -in the collection of the Osler Library of McGill University. An unbound copy exists in the William Boyd Collection of the Academy of Medicine, Toronto. Confusingly, this trial issue is identified as being vol. 1, no. 1 of The Montreal Medical Gazette (dated March 1, 1844).
