This is a fascinating 1857 map of the French department of Charente, France. This area of France is famous for its production of a wide variety of goat cheeses, such as Chabichou, Mothais, Buche du Poitou, and Chabi. In fact, it produces a third of all the goat cheese in France. The region is also known for its production of fine Cognacs and Pineau wine. The whole is surrounded by elaborate decorative engravings designed to illustrate both the natural beauty and trade richness of the land.
